If you have ever gotten behind the wheel of one of our Ferrari 488 rentals then you no how majestic these ponies can be. Well, Ferrari has recently released a new updated version called the Ferrari 488 Pista. This street legal track-ready Ferrari is named after the race track. Pista translated from Italian literally means track. The new version of the 2016 488 GTB comes with the most powerful V8 engine Ferrari has ever created that kicks out 711 hp. The new Ferrari was revealed at the 2018 Geneva Motor Show this week. The Pista can go from 0-62 in just 2.8 seconds and has a top speed of 211 mph. Ferrari’s primary goal with the 488 Pista was to one-up the performance, driving pleasure and style of the GTB.
The first radical design change you will notice is the new hood that has a large slot which slopes down into the bumper. The Formula 1-inspired S-Duct upfront channels the air flow through the front bumper creating a blanket of air that increases downforce on the front of the vehicle. Front diffusers inherited from the 488 GTE race car and a rear spoiler that combine to increase this stallions downforce by 20 percent over the GTB. The 488 Pista also uses Ferrari’s Side-Slip Angle Control system that manages the electronically controlled limited-slip differential, traction control, stability control, the magnetic suspension, and brake pressure. The 488 Pista is almost 200 pounds lighter than the GTB at 2,822 pounds.
In order to keep the body as light as possible several key parts were created from a lightweight carbon-fiber material such as the bonnet, bumpers and rear spoiler. lexan was also used on the rear windows to help reduce weight even further. The optional 20-inch carbon fiber rims are 40 percent lighter than the Ferrari 488 gtb and provide an additional weight saving option.
The Pista doesn’t just stop with its beautiful styling and powerful engine. The 488 Pista comes with a special Ferrari software that adjusts brake pressure using a lateral dynamic control system. The Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer (FDE) can be activating by switching the manettino switch to the CT-OFF position. It works like a highly advanced traction control system that prevents you from spinning around the Pista when making those hard turns around the corner. It allows the driver to have maximum control of the car while correcting any errors along the way. This allows more people to enjoy the Ferrari Pista even if your not a professional driver.
The Ferrari Dynamic Enhancer system is coupled with the SSC 6.0 system to allow you to push the Ferrari Pista to the limits while not losing control of the car. Another upgrade from the Ferrari 488gtb is the recalibrated SCM-E dampers combined with new springs that are 10% stiffer. It also has updated brakes that were modified to stay cool when your driving threw traffic aggressively and need some quick stopping power. It uses a similar brake servo to the 488 challenge to help stop the car even faster than the 488 gtb.
The Ferrari 488 Pista interior is everything you would expect from a racing Ferrari. It has a unique racing feel that is clearly inspired by the Scuderia and Speciale interiors. The interior uses lots of carbon fiber and Alcantara to not only save on weight but provide a lightweight racing style design. Like with all the Ferrari, the interior is meticulously crafted and uses contrasting color hand stitching thought the vehicle. The glove compartment has been removed and the doors have been slimmed down to provide more space inside and giving a minimalistic race car feel.
