The new Mercedes-AMG hypercar is equipped with formula one technology. The hypercar is going to be the first commercially available vehicle with F1 hybrid powertrain that is approved for the road. With a purely electric front axle drive and hybrid drive terrain it is set to deliver a combined power terrain of over 1000hp. The drive terrain is composed of an F1 type 1.6-liter turbocharged V6 combined with four electric motors. The Project ONE is showcasing the latest technology in Hybrid electric technology setting the benchmark for the supercars of the future.Like the BMW i8 the new Mercedes Hypercar will be able to drive using the 4 electric motors in the front but will be limited to a 15-mile range. Mercedes-Benz will limit production of the Project ONE to 275 cars.
The two-seat AMG Project ONE will retail for $2.54 million and will be based on a carbon-fiber chassis tub, the engine will then be mounted directly to the tub and the gearbox and differential unit will be attached directly to the engine. AMG Chairman Tobias Moers said “Plug-in hybrid is going to be the future for AMG. We get more performance and more efficiency and what’s wrong with that?” In true formula 1 style, Brixworth, the company that delivered three consecutive Formula One World Championships for drivers and manufacturers is developing the combustion engine.
