Do you recall the Lamborghini Urus? The SUV concept that made those widebody tuner Cayennes look rather tame? It appears, starting 2018, there will be a production version of the long awaited Lamborghini suv.
Details are scarce for now, it seems assembly will take place at Lambo’s factory in Sant’ Agata near Bologna, Italy. This little endeavor is expected to double the plant in size with an expected 500 new long term jobs created, that ought to stimulate the local economy. The plant will also deliver about 3000 SUVs each year. To put things in perspective, last year the firm built 1400 Gallardos and Huracans, and 1200 Aventadors. Check out Lamborghini rental today.
Eager to bring jobs to the area, the Italian Government has offered up key incentives for Lambo to keep the workforce local. And now, we pause for a brief moment of sublime irony of job creation – that the nought-point-nought-one-percenters’ super-SUV is being manufactured on the backs of Italian working class’s taxes. Why not rent Lamborghini now.
In an attempt to uncover more details about the vehicle itself, we questioned several high ranking Lambo bigwigs. This happened prior to everything becoming official, so it was on a ‘if you were to do an SUV, what would it be like?’ nod-and-wink basis. Lamborghini urus will be spectacular.
Lambo made a great deal of noise when it unveiled the concept vehicle back in 2012 raving about the use of carbon fibre. It offered a large composite backbone running down the centre, encasing the propshaft.
However, this week, Maurizio Reggiani, Lambo’s chief engineer informed us that it didn’t make sense to utilize so much carbon in the structure of a production SUV. For the reason that due to SUVs’ drivetrains, suspensions and interiors are so heavy, therefore, building a carbon structure doesn’t actually save much mass as a proportion of the overall vehicle. In any case, much more significant is that the Lambo SUV can share a platform with the Bentley Bentayga, and the next Porsche Cayenne. Can you imagine the possibilities? Check out the under-skin structure of the new Audi Q7, the first car off that platform. It delivers plenty of aluminium, both pressed and cast, including strategically placed high-strength varieties of steel. Lambo is able to substitute with composites, however, not too much.
Undoubtedly, Lamborghini engineers are eager to be as dynamic as possible. In order to achieve that, Reggiani says it’s less about weight and more about chassis tech. He anticipates active anti-roll, adaptive damping and variable ride height will all play an important role. Therefore, what about Lambo’s active variable-rate steering, and possibly four-wheel-steering also. And can’t forget about torque vectoring for the not inconsiderable oomph that will be issuing from the engine. Be sure to rent lamborghini now.
All these in combination, he claims, will provide a better chance of being capable off road, while comfortable on it, and still able to get around the track with some zest.
During the time of the concept car, Lamborghini talked up about 600bhp. The current V10 and V12 engines are fantastic in supercars, however, won’t suffice for SUVs, which require plenty of torque. A diesel is of course verboten, because this is a car for places where diesel doesn’t factor, and anyhow due to the fact, it’s a Lambo says it all. However, Lamborghini has promised its SUV will offer class-leading CO2 levels. Apparently dependent on how one defines class we assume. Check out Lamborghini rental at a bargain,
So can we anticipate either turbos or a hybrid booster. Either option would be a first for Lambo. Space can be found in the new platform for a hybrid battery under the boot floor.
In addition to the likelihood of a plug-in hybrid being at least one powertrain option, just before the SUV was confirmed, Lamborghini boss Stefan Winkelmann asserted that: “Our plug-in hybrid Asterion concept was meant to demonstrate that the price would be a bit higher. And it [hybrid] doesn’t allow you to do a car like the Aventador because you have to add weight.” Rent lamborghini today. Also dont forget to subscribe JayLeno’s youtube channel for more great videos.
